Abstract Time
Nam June Paik on the Immeasurable Present
Time and Space Concepts in Music and Visual Art
Symposium, 1978
This panel discussion features Merce Cunningham, John Cage, & Nam June Paik. About 12 minutes in, Paik begins to talk about the concept of time in video art, comparing the discovery of abstract time by video artists to that of abstract space by painters in the 1920’s & 1930’s. The present, much like the notion of being, is immeasurable.
